4 Ways to Improve Your Local Online Marketing Strategy

local online marketing strategy

If your B2B business only targets a specific location it becomes imperative to make sure that your website and online marketing strategy is centered on location targeting. Without strategies put in place you might be marketing to customers who aren’t able to do business with you. Here are 4 ways to improve your local online marketing strategy.

1. Do Keyword Research on Location Specific Terms.

When performing keyword research on what keywords customers are searching for on search engines, it is important to look for terms around your location rather than broad terms. For example, if you sell cutting tools do research on terms like “cutting tools in red bank” rather than just “cutting tools.” This way when you are ready to optimize your website, you know you are targeting your specific audience over customers who may be located outside your region.

2. Include Your Locations on Your Website.

Search engines are designed to act like humans. So when search engines are indexing and browsing your website, they have the ability to connect various pages and content of a website together. Having all of your locations listed on your website will help your website rank for location targeted search terms.
Specifically, you should:

  1. Create individual landing pages for all of your locations. These landing pages should include basic contact information and any information specific to that location.
  2. Include all of your locations within the header and footer of your website. This may depend on the number of locations you have, for you don’t want to over crowd those sections.

3. Create a Google My Business Page.

Google has pages called Google My Business pages that companies can set up and verify, which are connected to Google maps. When customers search for your company or related terms, your business may show up on the right side of Google results with information such as address, content info, reviews, website, etc. Not only does this provide useful information to your customers but if you optimize your page for location keywords, it may also help your Google rankings for location targeted search terms.

4. Filter Your Targeting and Tracking.

Depending on what tracking program you are using on your website, you may be able to filter your results by location. It is important to take advantage of these metrics because you can refine your data around your target audience. For example, you may want to see if a certain page is getting more views from a certain location in order to make decisions on discounts.
Similarly, if you have pay-per-click campaigns running, you should take advantage of the location targeting available. You are able to setup parameters where your ads only show within set locations. This way you are not targeting customers who aren’t able to buy or use your services.
